Native Planting at Maximo Park

Friday August 16

9:00 AM  –  12:00 PM

Join Manatee County Natural Resources and Tampa Bay Watch for a hands-on planting event at G.T. Bray Park (5502 33rd Ave Dr W, Bradenton, FL 34209) on Friday, June 20th from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Volunteers are needed to transplant native aquatic and upland vegetation around a stormwater pond as part of an exciting freshwater restoration project.  This pond was planted during the fall of last year, but much of the vegetation installed was soon lost during the hurricanes. We will be replanting the areas most affected by the storms with native plants that help stabilize the pond’s edge, filter runoff, and improve water quality, while also creating habitat for birds, pollinators, and aquatic life!

Please be prepared to get wet and muddy. Wear long clothing and closed-toe shoes that are comfortable for working outdoors. Bring a pair of rubber boots or shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, as some of the planting will be in shallow water and consider bringing another pair of shoes to change into after the event. Please wear sun protection (sunscreen, shade hat, sunglasses) and bring a water bottle. We will provide tools, gloves, plants, water coolers, and snacks!
